10 Most Trusted Senior Care Service Providers 2022

 img

Entrusting Comfort and Care!

My personal connection with my grandparents was very special; even though we lived miles apart, the distance was never a barrier. My parents would make sure that they fostered and nurtured me throughout my grasping age so that I get to learn many things, and all of these upskills add value to my learning.

Coming up with this understanding of the grandparent-children relationship, there is no doubt that grandparents have been a layer of support in most people’s lives, and the values they inculcate make a big difference. The 2010 Census data estimated that around 2.7 million grandparents

provide primary care to their grandchildren.

Acknowledging all these challenges, we at Insights Care came up with our special edition, 10 Most Trusted Senior Care Service Providers 2022. In this edition, we aim to highlight organizations that are providing ‘senior care’ as it is termed, which includes assisted care, nursing care, personalized care, and much more.

On the cover is Artis Senior Living, an organization committed to delivering to individuals who have Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia and memory loss. Founded in 2012,

Artis Senior Living is a premier developer, operator, and owner of assisted living

communities in the United States. Its network has grown since its inception to include 27

communities operating in 11 states across the country, with over half of that portfolio growth taking place in the last 2.5 years.

In this edition, 10 Most Trusted Senior Care Service Providers 2022, we aim to highlight organizations that are providing ‘senior care’ as it is termed

An Assistive Touch Blossoming the Globe!

Carefully examine your hand, the four fingers, and one thumb. Have you ever given a thought as to how much you use your thumb on a regular basis? Well, you just used it to hold this magazine or scroll through one if you’re on the digital version.

So, from grasping, scrolling, flipping, climbing, eating, and even creating new tools, thumbs have helped humans open a new world of adeptness.

It is interesting to me that the most advanced technology that has ever existed on this planet is that of the neuro-muscular anatomy—human hand, which in itself is a ‘technology by design’.

Bringing to the spotlight, the people with disabilities and mental health conditions, as well as older people or even normal humans with partial impairment, need such technical assistance to participate in education, the labor market, and live a civic life.

Like the thumb, these assistive technologies have played a crucial role in specially-abled people’s lives for performing tasks that would have otherwise been impossible or difficult to perform. They are not only in the form of equipment, but the recent development in digitalization has made it common for mainstream software and hardware to include designs and features that will help assist them in every aspect of life.

In order to highlight organizations that are making technology not only accessible but assistive to the larger section of society, we at Insights Care launched our latest edition, 10 Most Innovative Assistive Technology Companies in 2022.

Nanophotonic Devices: Can Biosensors Prevent Death Risks Among Patients?

Nanophotonic Devices, The market for biosensors has taken another step – in turning medical decisions up to 70% more efficient.

Although smartwatches and wearables have been sufficient to a certain extent – in detecting illnesses at the earliest rate possible, “there are still a few conditions such as autoimmune disorders or cancers where a lot of damage go undetected,” states Dr. Oh, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Minnesota.

Fortunately, innovation has encouraged the biosensors’ technological base to explore nanophotonic advancements, which could be a promising initiative in preventing delayed damage to patients.

When designing biosensors, nanophotonic devices are incorporated inside them, which are likely to be useful in revealing health information. “By trapping light in its ultrasmall volumes, such a device is highly sensitive to light-molecule interactions taking place in the body, making it an advanced and reliable tool to run diagnosis,” says Dr. Oh.

Why is it Worthwhile?

The question of whether the upgraded version of biosensors will be worthwhile to the healthcare sector – goes beyond patients’ reliance on early illness detection. With their high precision and sensitivity to bodily changes, nanophotonic devices will also be interacting with the process of drug monitoring.

Through its observed data, communicated efficiently, clinical researchers will just be getting started in attaining a significant level of health and well-being among patients globally.

Bone Infections Could be Treated Through the Discovery of New Antibiotics

Antibiotics play an essential role during surgical procedures. Yet approximately 700,000 people are killed every year due to antibiotic resistance. Clearly, by 2050, the number of people killed this way would be 10 million, as per the recent nature biomedical report suggests. Unless resistance could be blocked through new antibiotics.

At present, researchers from the Brigham and Women’s Hospital have developed a specialized drug device deliverysystem that may be used to decrease resistance development in treating bone infections.

Science Behind Drug Making

“The discovered antibiotics must demonstrate activity against drug-resistant bacteria,” suggests researchers. or this, they performed a molecular-docking simulations, reporting a rational design through mutated bacterial targets.

Collaborating with fellow researchers from the Brigham’s department of orthopedic surgery, attempts were put forth to create an antibiotic through bone cement matrix, also known as polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) bone cement.

Researchers in their ongoing study were able to pinpoint a dual-action antibiotic, VCD-077, that exhibited a desired drug release kinetics that did not affect PMMA’s bone cement stability. It also showed high efficacy against a wide range of drug-resistant bacteria strands that slowed down the development of future resistance.

Future of Antibiotics

The future of antibiotics undeniably lies in incorporating artificial intelligence with drug discovery. This would play a reassuring role in making antibiotics cost-effective and more efficient. “With seeking an AI approach to drug development, it will bring about a new medical engineering paradigm,” conclude researchers.

Merry Walker: A Versatile Diplomat Creating a Difference

Today, for most, life is just about surviving, especially in the regions where elements of resource accessibility, affordability, or availability are unknown. This challenge though was addressed when the world entered the era of globalization, yet it was seen that people needed more than just the act of economic theories.

To aid this process and enable resource mobilization, countries resorted to enhancing global human engagement through policy and diplomacy. Good diplomacy has yielded vast benefits of peace, infrastructural developments, investments, leveraging human resources and skills, and more. Diplomats have brought the world closer than it was, crafting a new era of global cohesiveness and communication.

One such diplomat is Foreign Service Officer– Merry Walker, in the U.S Department of State, who has imbibed the learnings of life and is on a powerful mission to serve the purpose of affecting numerous people positively through policies and dialogue, helping everyone live and not just survive.

But this is not all. There is more to know about her vibrant personality.

Please tell us about your roles and responsibilities as a Foreign Service Officer.

Foreign Service Officers, also known as U.S. diplomats, work to advance U.S. interests abroad, promote peace, support prosperity, and protect American citizens.

We manage foreign relations specific to the nation, international organization, or region we are assigned to, focusing on a range of issues including economics and trade, science and technology, politics, military, humanitarian, health, and other topics relevant to U.S. policy.

Benjamin Franklin served as our country’s diplomat, establishing critical relations with France which helped secure our victory in the Revolutionary War. It is an honor to follow in his footsteps serving as a U.S. diplomat at the U.S. Embassy in Paris centuries later.

As a diplomat, why, in your opinion, should the foreign policy of nations converges on solutions for enhancing healthcare across the globe? How have you contributed to it?

Health is something that links us all. As witnessed in the recent Covid-19 pandemic, diseases and illnesses know no borders, do not discriminate, and cannot be addressed by any one country or organization. International cooperation is critical to ensuring global health and promoting health security.

During my time at the U.S. Embassy in Paris, I have served as the global health officer. This has meant learning about health and Covid-19 programs and policies in France and the European Union to inform senior U.S. leaders to ultimately make foreign and domestic policy decisions on issues like vaccines, masks, travel restrictions, and other measures, as well as where we can cooperate with France in terms of research and development, scientific cooperation, and information sharing.

I organize discussions between relevant research bodies, government agencies, associations, and the private sector, to facilitate the exchange of best practices, as well as coordinate strategies and plans. As the pandemic came under control, I shifted my focus to health more broadly, including mental health, cancer, and emerging and infectious diseases.

MANAGING DIABETES WITH A LOW GI DIET: THE LOW GI DIET-

WRITTEN BY: MUSKAN BARMARE

High sugar levels? Diabetes? Anguished with your medications and Insulin Injections. Have already made an effort to follow The Mediterranean Diet, DASH, Volumetric, the biggest loser, and god knows what else, yet couldn’t revamp your sugar readings? Here’s something you’d find compelling and agreeable.

As a diabetic, what is the main component to focus on? We all know the answer to that one. Carbohydrates. The prime nutrient of a diabetic patient, but carbohydrate alone isn’t the chief, it’s also the type of carbohydrate, and the quantity that you eat is important. That is where low glycemic index foods come into the picture. Studies have shown that a low GI diet may result in weight loss, reduces blood glucose, and reduces the risk of cardiovascular diseases and Type 2 Diabetes mellitus. This article will provide you with detailed guidance to a low GI diet.

Glycemic Index measures the carbohydrate quality, i.e., how much a carbohydrate will affect the blood sugar; it is like a ranking process of foods from 0 to 100 that tells us whether a carbohydrate food will raise the blood sugar(glucose) levels dramatically, moderately or just a little, i.e., at a steady and gradual rate.

The lower the Glycemic index, the better the diabetic parameters for an individual. The GI rating from 56–69 is considered as intermediate or medium, and GI rating 70 or more is examined as high. Carbohydrates with a low GI, i.e., 55 or less, are more considered as it is slowly and well utilized by the body, which causes a lower and slower rise in blood glucose.

how does a low glycemic index diet help with diabetes?

This diet focuses on carbs, with the goal of eating foods that produce a steady and slow rise in blood sugar rather than an immediate spike in the blood sugar created by eating foods that are rapidly digested.

Hence, this helps to keep your blood glucose levels intact and balanced well. The GI of a food can be affected by a number of factors like the type of sugar it contains, the level of ripeness as well the method through which it has been cooked.

With eating a low GI diet, you need to also keep your carbohydrate counting in mind. As carbohydrates have the greatest effect on the blood glucose compared to other macronutrients, protein and fats, keeping track of carbs consumed in meals and snacks can help in diabetes care. Being precise as possible on the carb quality and eating the same amount of carbohydrates every day aids in managing diabetes. Hence, consuming a low GI diet and appropriate carb counting can bring a tighter reign over your glucose readings.

Along with the GI, Glycemic Load goes hand in hand. The glycemic load of a food tells us how much carb content is there in that particular food. The lower the GI and the GL of the food, the better for utilization and slow the rate of rising in blood sugar, more preferable for a person with diabetes.

What should you have in a low GI diet?

Examples of low GI foods consist of carbohydrates such as peanuts, bean sprouts, low-fat curd or Greek yogurt, apples, carrots, multigrain bread, brown rice, quinoa, bajra flour, ragi flour, oranges, banana, all green leafy vegetables, bell peppers, tomatoes, sweet potato, and oatmeal. The more fiber in your food, the better. You’d need to avoid foods high in GI such as refined flour products such as white bread, cakes, etc., starchy vegetables like potatoes, and fruits like watermelon.

There are many potential benefits for those with Type 1DM. Studies have shown that T1DM patients have shown huge benefits of consuming low GI foods on better management and prevention of disease progression to different stages. It manifests in improved blood glucose, and less prone to experience hypoglycaemic episodes as well as reduces the risk of developing T2DM. It is taken into consideration for people with both T1 & T2 DM to use GI as a way to help healthfully manage their condition.
